Air Quality,
Dust & Odour

The air quality team at Logika Group has been at the forefront of air quality management and assessment for over 30 years, playing a critical role in addressing the impacts that air, dust and odour emissions can have on both human health and biodiversity.

Operating in the UK and internationally, our experts have led many of the air quality criteria, guidance documents and assessment methods adopted by the UK regulators and the European Commission alike.

Air Quality

We assess indoor and outdoor air quality using surveys, monitoring and numerical-modelling techniques. We carry out assessments to support planning applications, turning complex evidence into clear counsel and practical mitigation strategies. We assist local authorities in delivering their obligations under the Local Air Quality Management regime, and have been engaged in the development of Low Emission Zones / Clean Air Zones. also help governments and regulators (both in the UK and internationally) use emerging research to shape effective, forward-looking policies.

Dust Mitigation

We monitor, assess, and model dust risks to establish where impacts may arise and who or what could be affected. From evaluating proposed sites to managing existing operations, our proportionate mitigation strategies help protect people, habitats, and neighbouring properties, while supporting planning, permitting, and project progress.

Odour Management

We use surveys, monitoring, assessments, and dispersion modelling to identify odour sources, predict their effects, and understand potential impacts on communities and proposed sites. Our practical mitigation and management strategies help operators demonstrate due diligence, and keep planning, permitting, and everyday operations moving.

Our Air Quality, Dust and Odour Services

From pinpointing today’s risks to predicting tomorrow’s impacts, we give you the practical insight and solutions you need to keep moving forwards. Our services include:

Air Quality Modelling, Monitoring and Certification

We model existing and future air quality using the ADMS suite and CFD models to support decision makers with their plans and projects.  We assess the impacts of emissions from a range of activities including roads, airports, ports, mixed-use developments, generators, industrial sites, waste management sites, taking account of impacts on human health and sensitive ecosystems.  We design, commission and operate air quality monitoring studies using a variety of reference, sensor and passive techniques. We provide a range of services to support local authorities with the Local Air Quality Management regime.  We undertake core research activities to support the development of policies, guidance and strategies.  We provide BREEAM indoor Air Quality Plans to support certification

Odour Assessments, Guidance and Surveying

Through using ADMS and AERMOD to model odour dispersion, conducting field-based surveys and using the findings to review complaint data, we support planning applications and masterplanning.. We use both quantitative and qualitative analysis to form a vital part of the planning and environment permitting processes. We’re also called upon by industry institutions to develop guidance for the assessment and management of odours.

Dust Analysis, Measurement and Evaluation

Our use of passive samplers and real-time monitors with alert systems enables us to monitor dust from demolition and construction and – where accurate quantification of emissions us not possible – our modelling identifies where maximum impacts are likely to occur.  Having helped develop the Institute or Air Quality Management guidance, we apply this in our assessment and monitoring processes.
