Biodiversity

Logika Group offers a full range of biodiversity and ecology services including surveys, assessments, policy development and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) in the terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments.

The need for action to halt the decline in biodiversity is well known. As legislation and policy strengthens so that it supports the protection and enhancement of biodiversity, the services we offer – from simple Preliminary Ecological Appraisals to more complex support for Environmental Impact Assessments – become ever more relevant.

Biodiversity Net Gain

We are experts in helping projects achieve Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). BNG is legislation designed to increase and improve natural habitats for wildlife. BNG makes sure development has a measurably positive impact on biodiversity, compared to what was there before.

In England, BNG is now mandatory under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Developers must deliver BNG of at least 10%. This means a development will result in more or better quality natural habitat. Logika Group has extensive experience in delivering BNG across a range of developments.

BNG Process

The process involves an initial survey and assessment of losses. Our design team then identify appropriate opportunities to reduce losses and deliver more habitat. Finally, calculations are undertaken to establish the net gain and any necessary design adjustments made to meet any shortfall.

Air Quality and Biodiversity

The air quality team at Logika Group has been at the forefront of air quality management and assessment for over 30 years, playing a critical role in addressing the impacts that air, dust and odour emissions can have on both human health and biodiversity.

Operating in the UK and internationally, our experts have led many of the air quality criteria, guidance documents and assessment methods adopted by the UK regulators and the European Commission alike.

Biodiversity Assessments

Our preliminary ecological appraisals are undertaken in line with guidance from the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), ensuring best practice and up-to-the-minute techniques are always utilised. We also provide CIEEM compliant assessments for both EIA and non-EIA scale development, including for nationally significant infrastructure.

Habitats and Field Surveys

Habitats regulations assessments are undertaken in line with Government guidance and case law, and we have experience providing assessments for plans and projects of all scales. In addition, we partner with development projects and habitat banks to complete BNG assessments. Our team is experienced in conducting a full range of field surveys, including for habitats and protected species. Based on our extensive assessment procedures, we are able to offer strategic advice aimed at minimising risks associated with costs, schedules and consent.
