Arboriculture

Arboriculture

With well-planned vegetation providing valuable habitats for wildlife and supporting human health and wellbeing, the importance of trees as an asset should not be underestimated.

Logika consultants ensure arboriculture is a key factor from the early stages of planning, helping developers retain valuable trees, manage risk, meet planning obligations and integrate long-term sustainability into their sites.

Support from Design to Management

Our team can support you from the initial design stages through to long-term site care and management. This begins with surveying trees within and surrounding the site – considering both visible canopies and below-ground root systems. Findings are then incorporated into practical and sustainable design, planning and management, with our specialists recommending appropriate strategies to help maintain compliance and provide protection.

From Developers to Public bodies

Logika has a wealth of expertise in supporting developers and housebuilders with site selection, layout, construction and planting considerations. In addition, we work within the energy and infrastructure sectors to manage trees safely around complex assets and operational requirements. We also partner with public bodies, landowners and estate managers to help them understand manage trees around streets, parks, estates, campuses and landholdings.

Planning Considerations

By identifying tree constraints, planning considerations, safety concerns and potential liabilities, we ensure our partners have completed their due diligence when it comes to arboricultural considerations. In addition, we work with organisations to review evidence, respond to objections and support negotiations when submitting planning applications or handling appeals.

Our Arboricultural Services

We are proud to offer a range of arboricultural services, including: Arboricultural impact assessments, Arboricultural surveys for planning, Method statements, Preservation and conservation support, Tree constraints plans, Tree planting strategies, Tree protection plans, Tree risk and safety surveys, Veteran and ancient tree assessments, Woodland and tree stock management

Assessment and planning

Our arboricultural surveys record the species, dimensions, condition, quality and remaining value of trees to provide reliable evidence for site design and planning. Canopies, root protection areas and other vegetation are mapped so project teams can see where trees might influence development from the outset.

Through impact assessments, we can explain how a proposed development could affect existing trees, evaluating which may be retained, removed or require specification protection. Our method statements set out how work near retained trees should be planned and conducted, translating protection requirements into practical site actions.

Management

Our experts create prioritised programmes for inspection, maintenance, protection and succession planning. By understanding the condition, structure and needs of larger tree populations, we support organisations to management woodland and tree stock through practical investment and long-term stewardship.

Our specialist oversight during site preparation and construction means protection measures are always appropriate to the current condition and design. We also advise on tree planting strategies, selecting suitable species and locations according to climate conditions, landscape, biodiversity, function and long-term maintenance.

Protection and Risk

Tree protection plans show where fencing, ground protection and specialist construction methods are needed to prevent avoidable damage. Our risk and safety surveys identify any potential hazards so people, property and the trees themselves can be protected.

Where Tree Preservation Orders are in place, or conservation area requirements and other planning controls, we can guide our partners around their obligations. We also offer veteran and ancient tree assessments for ecologically valuable or culturally important trees, to help develop appropriate strategies for their protection and management.

“Our scientific understanding enables us to integrate better air quality into development designs — not as an afterthought, but from the very start.”
