Landscape & Visual Impact

Landscape and Visual Impact

Changes to the existing landscape or townscape are often the most contentious element of new developments. With our extensive experience, we help our clients through the full cycle of development from initial feasibility studies, through Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), to the submission of applications and the production of supporting documents.

In-depth Analysis

Our in-depth landscape and visual analysis means development is situated in the right part of a site, responds appropriately to local character and context, and provides a landscape-led approach to development. Our specialists undertake Landscape/ Townscape and Visual Impact Assessments in accordance with the Guidelines for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments, 3rd edition (GLVIA 3) across a range of property and infrastructure development, from large-scale residential and mixed-use, to transport and sensitive infrastructure projects.

Understanding the Impacts

Working collaboratively with our clients, co-professionals and stakeholders enables us to understand the likely effects of developments on the environment and ensure that proposals meet regulatory and policy obligations. Where impacts are unavoidable, we seek pragmatic solutions for their reduction or mitigation and, wherever possible, the incorporation of enhancements.

Mitigation and Enhancement

Our landscape planners work closely with our design teams to avoid likely impacts or seek opportunities to offset or compensate for unavoidable effects. Wherever possible we identify measures to improve or enhance the existing landscape as part of development proposals.

Our Landscape and Visual Impact Services

Our core services include: Environmental master-planning, Expert witness services at landscape appeals and inquiries, Landscape/townscape and visual impact assessments (LVIA/TVIA)

Landscape Feasibility Studies

Our landscape feasibilities studies are critical to help clients understand the potential and limitations of a site, particularly in terms of its environmental and regulatory context. These studies are essential tools for assessing whether a proposed project is realistic, viable, and sustainable.

Mapping

We provide comprehensive GIS services and analysis which includes the production of Zone of Theoretical Visibility mapping. By mapping the areas from which development could theoretically be seen, this helps focus fieldwork, viewpoints, design decisions, and assessment.
